So, hanging plants are all the rage at the moment, and they're a great way to add freshness and colour to your home. Here is a simple (as simple as you can get!) guide to making a hanging pot for your own home. A great DIY for anyone who doesn't have heaps of time to learn how to macrame but still likes the look of that pretty macrame cord around a hanging pot.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

✖︎  Hemp cord or macrame rope (at least 2.2m)

✖︎  Measuring tape

✖︎  Scissors

✖︎  Hook and drill (for hanging)

HOW TO:

1//

Using the measuring tape and scissors measure and cut fifteen 120cm lengths of the cord or rope, and one 380cm length.

You may need to adjust the number of lengths of cord you need depending on the thickness of the cord you're using.

A few years ago a friend brought me back some cowrie shell leis from a trip to Papua New Guinea, knowing how much I love shells, all things beachy and a bit of DIY! Since then, I've had them hanging off door and wardrobe handles until I worked out how to use them. When I discovered a little DIY for a teapot trivet using rope and a very simple knitting method, I knew it could be the perfect little project to incorporate my cowrie shells into, to personalise and make it fit my decor.

So with the weather starting to cool down (read: lows of 21°C!), it's feeling more like tea-drinking weather (read: enjoying a hot cup of tea without it making you sweat!), and with this little teapot trivet, I'm going to be tea-drinking ready...

An interiors trend for this season is texture, and I love it because it means lots of DIY opportunities! More and more we're seeing wicker and cane, macrame, pom poms and tassels, weaves, wood and ceramics in furniture and decorating. I think this trend is beautiful because it encourages hand-crafting and special pieces to make your house feel more like a home. It's easy enough to buy a budget-friendly seagrass basket and personalise it with some pom poms!

So here's my contribution (the first of a few to come!) to encouraging this trend in your home. Pom poms are really easy to make and you can even get your kids involved. Perhaps you remember learning to make these at school... I have fond memories!

Who doesn't love a cheese platter and a glass of wine in the company of good friends? It's a pretty good way to end the week and kick off the weekend, and if you can find a location or view to match you're winning!

Grazing plates seem to be all the rage at the moment, so here I am, jumping on the bandwagon! When I have a bit more time to put a cheese plate together I like to include some healthier, sometimes homemade options so that we can enjoy our cheese plate a little more guilt-free! It's not hard to include things like nuts, dried and fresh fruit, and fresh, pickled or roasted vegetables to add interest and food that will nourish. Often at the deli you'll find sweet fruit pastes to serve with your cheese plate, and...

I don't usually post about our travels and outdoor adventures, but this past weekend we went away on a much anticipated holiday to one of my favourite places and I thought it would be fun to share a little piece of this paradise in our corner of the world.

The end of last year was a little average for us and I ended the year feeling pretty physically exhausted and the both of us emotionally drained. So a weekend away together to recharge and celebrate a very belated wedding anniversary was timely!

Agnes Water is a beautiful beach town located at Australia's southern end of the great barrier reef, and the most northerly surf beach on the east coast. It is a popular destination for families, back-packers, caravaners an...

Valentine's Day is just around the corner! I'm not a red roses kind of girl myself, and I'm not keen on the money-making, commercial side of Valentine's Day but why waste an opportunity to show someone that you love them?! I also love a beautiful bunch of flowers but why not try something different this year... something that can be kept and enjoyed for more than a few days.

So, I reckon that Valentine's Day is pretty easy when you're buying for a woman – flowers and chocolates aren't hard to work out! But what to get for the man you love? I'm showing my hubby that I love him this Valentine's Day with a little gift box of things he loves and things we can enjoy together (if you catch my drift!). If you're planning to bu...

I love leather, not so much the fashion kind (read: leather pants), but leather interiors and accessories make me swoon! I think maybe it's the feel of it, the texture and that beautiful worn look soft leather interiors get after you've owned them for a while. Currently, in our home we have tan leather cushions, leather napkin rings (last week's blog post) and now a pretty wooden serving board with leather handles... and there are plenty more DIY projects ahead that will involve leather!

One of the great things about leather, is that (so far) I have found it really easy to work with. So hear's another little DIY project to add a little character to a sweet wooden serving board. I have a selection of wooden serving boards...

I love entertaining! Mostly, I love it because it means spending time with good friends (or making new ones!), enjoying conversation, a few laughs and sharing our home with others. But I also love cooking, pretty platters and plates and decorating the table so that it's not only the food that is aesthetically pleasing.

I've slowly been making my way through a few DIY projects to create some pretty pieces to add interest to our dining decor and these leather napkin rings have been on my to-do list for a while. These napkin rings were an easy and fun little project to add style and texture to our dining table!

But I can't claim it as my own idea! I picked up a great little book from the local newsagent a yea...

These hot, sunny days call for some refreshing, zingy lemonade! With this simple recipe, there's no excuse for not making it yourself!

As kids, we were only allowed soft drink on special occasions, and for good reason! Full of plenty of unnatural nasties and refined sugar, you're better off staying away from it all together. I remember going to a friend's house as a five year old and being wide-eyed at having coke given to me at dinner time... on a school night?! That's one way to keep the dentist in business!

But if you're looking for a refreshing drink to quench your thirst this summer why not mix together a big jug of traditional lemonade to share! Growing up, my mum only ever bought lemon cordial, because apparently i...

Summer is, and always has been, my favourite season! I've been called a beach fiend by friends, and as a kid, I always wanted to have a pool party for my birthday, but I'm a June baby so it was never to be!

There's so much that I love about Summer – swimming in the ocean, the warmer, longer days, the availability of my favourite fruit (and living in sub-tropical Queensland it's top notch and grown locally, if not in our backyard), living in swimmers, summery dresses and thongs, and... bbqs!

Now that the busyness of Christmas is over, it's time to kick back and enjoy a few cold ones around the grill. A bbq shared with friends should be effortless and stress-free so it works well to ask your friends to bring meat for t...

It's no secret that I love a bit of diy, and I love shibori (or tie-dye as some may better know it as). I've had these shibori napkins on my to-do list for a little while now so it's about time I got down to it!

This is such a simple little diy but will add so much interest and style to your dining table when you entertain, and best of all, they'll be perfectly unique!

For these napkins, I've experimented a little more with different patterns than I have previously (see my blog post on diy tie-dye couch covers). There are so many different possible designs and it all depends on how you fold, scrunch and tie your fabric. You might like to do a little research before you settle on a design that you like. I've include 3 dif...

The weather is warming up and it's feeling more like summer – my favourite season! So here are my summer essentials to equip you for long days at the beach, backyard bbqs around the pool and long Sunday afternoon picnics.

SUN PROTECTION

First and foremost, I never go outdoors without sunscreen – and Sun Bum is my favourite! They have a range of options depending on the conditions you'll be in, and a sunscreen created specifically for precious little ones and friends with super sensitive skin... and it smells awesome! I us...

Recently I did a little clean out and re-organisation of my home studio and discovered a large supply of fabric that I haven't touched in a long time. Rather than leaving it to take up space, or give it away, I've been thinking of ways that I can use it around the house – saving money, materials, and giving me more storage space in the studio. I've been especially looking forward to using some beautiful fabric that was a wedding gift from a lovely friend – what a great gift idea! I'm only sorry it has taken me longer than two years to do anything with it!

Also sitting (so lonely) in the studio is a sewing machine that my parents generously gave to me for Christmas over two years ago now. Since I was a teenager I've been...

We've had rain for days here and I really miss the sun! The weather in this lovely little corner of the world is usually pretty perfect and most days are sunny and warm. I've loved having these tropical rain showers for a day or two – the grass is lush and green, our tropical garden is loving it – but after five days straight, I'm ready for the sun again. However, I think there's another week of rain ahead! I don't find it too hard to get up and out of bed usually, because the sun is shining and it's beautiful and warm, but all this rain has a serious affect on my mood and I have felt a little unproductive this week.

I've always loved cooking and baking and, as long as it all goes to plan(!), it usually cheers...

We love guacamole in our house! When I told my husband that I'd be making guacamole today for this blog post, I'd hardly finished my sentence before he cut in and declared he'd eat it when he got home from work! Ha! It's my go to appetiser for parties and it's not long before it disappears!

There has been a little heatwave hit south east Queensland but I think it seems to have made it's way to central east Queensland too. It has been a 33 degree day today and will be tomorrow – a great way to start the Queensland Queen's birthday long weekend, and we've got family visiting for a few days so it's an extra long weekend for us! So to celebrate the end of the working week, the start of the long weekend and to beat the heatwa...
